If you own calipers, measure straight across the ring's inner edges. A caliper reading beats any screen match — enter it here and it takes priority.
Step 4 — Cross-check against circumference
Thread a thin paper strip through the ring (or around the same finger), mark it, and measure the length. Two independent methods must agree before you trust the size.

Why two measurements beat one good one
Diameter and circumference describe the same ring — but fail independently.
Same ring, different mistakes
A screen match can suffer parallax or a drifted calibration; a ruler can be misread; calipers can sit at an angle. These errors are unrelated to each other, so when two methods land on the same size, the agreement is real evidence — far stronger than either reading alone.
Disagreement is a finding, not a failure
If the implied and entered circumferences differ by more than half the local catalog step, the workflow says so instead of splitting the difference. Re-take both readings with steady zoom: one of them is wrong, and finding out which is the whole point.
What this flow cannot do

- No camera or photo sizing: lens scaling and perspective add error no page can show you, so this flow does not offer it.
- No uncalibrated screen matching: without step 1, on-screen millimeters are unanchored and confidence stays low.

Frequently asked questions
Why do I need to calibrate my screen first?
Web pages have no idea how big their pixels are on your display — the same page renders at different physical sizes on different phones and zoom levels. Matching a real card or sheet of paper of known width tells the page its millimeters-per-pixel ratio on your exact screen, which is what makes the on-screen circle meaningful. Skip calibration and the circle is just a guess.
Should I match the circle to the inside or outside of my ring?
Always the inside edge. Ring sizes are defined by the inner diameter — the hole your finger goes through. Matching the outer metal includes the band thickness on both sides and reads up to a full size too large. Lay the ring flat on the screen and line the circle up with the inner rim.
I own calipers — do I still need the screen steps?
No. A caliper reading of the inner diameter is the most precise at-home input in this workflow — enter it directly and skip to the cross-check. The screen steps exist for everyone without calipers; the cross-check against circumference is still worth doing either way.
My diameter and circumference disagree — which one wins?
Neither, yet. A gap bigger than half the local catalog step means one reading is off — common culprits are an uncalibrated screen, matching the outer instead of inner edge, or misreading the ruler. Re-take both readings (keeping zoom steady) rather than averaging them, since averaging hides the error instead of fixing it.
Can I just photograph my ring instead?
Not with this flow, deliberately. Phone cameras apply unknown scaling, perspective distortion, and autofocus breathing that no web page can reliably undo — any "photo sizer" number would carry hidden error it cannot show you. Matching a calibrated on-screen circle or using calipers keeps every error source visible in the confidence panel.
What do the error bounds on my result actually mean?
They show the diameter window that maps to your size by table lookup alone — readings inside that window are indistinguishable without better inputs. Screen matching and ruler reads add further error on top, which is why the workflow demands two agreeing methods before reporting high confidence.
